Tuesday July 14th  Derby - Ivy House Special School & Village Primary School

Details of the Schools. The main meeting will be held at Ivy House Special School with a visit to Village Primary School by bus.

 

      Ivy House Special School is a special school for 75 pupils with profound multiple and complex learning difficulties. The school caters for pupils and students from 3years old to 19years old. The school opened in January 2009 in a brand new Targeted Capital funded building immediately adjacent and to and physically linked to a main stream secondary school-Derby Moor Community Sports College. The school has a number of special features such as a hydrotherapy pool, physiotherapy and medical treatment rooms and tracking hoists in each classroom. The new building has a biomass boiler and a combined heat and power system.

 

     Village Primary School is a 2 1/2 form entry primary school. 525 places plus 39 full time equivalent place nursery. The school was opened in September 2008 and was built to replace two infant schools and one junior school with condition, suitability and surplus place issues. The school shares a campus with a health centre, Sure Start and Adult Education facility. The building has a biomass boiler, grass roof and a grey water collection system for toilet flushing.

 

Car Parking. Car parking at Ivy House Special School and on the roads immediately outside the school is very limited. Cars can be parked at the King George V playing field car park which is a 10 minute walk from Ivy House School. The King George V Playing Field car park is located on Carlyle Avenue, Littleover, Derby. The post code is DE23 7ES. The route from the car park to the school will be signposted.

 

Disabled Parking. Parking for drivers holding disabled driver passes is available at Ivy House.

 

Arrivals by Train & Taxi. The New Ivy House School is located approximately 2 miles from Derby Railway Station. Some taxi drivers may be unaware that Ivy House School has recently moved to the same site as Derby Moor Community Sports College. The address of the New Ivy House School is Ivy House School/Derby Moor Community Sports College site, Moorway Lane, Littleover, Derby. DE23 7FS.  

 

A bus will be provided to take conference delegates to visit Village Primary School and return them to Ivy House for the afternoon session.

 11-20am. Raising Design Standards.

 12noon.   Bus to Village Primary School.

 12-10pm. One group of approximately 40 people to have lunch. Three groups of approximately 14 people each to look at the            school.               ( Jane Green Head of Village Primary to welcome the Group. Jeanette and Village Staff to lead the tour groups)

  12-40pm. Change over groups.

  1-15pm.  Bus back to Ivy House.

  1-30pm. Design Features, the design process and the lessons learned.   3-30pm   Close and Refreshments.   (Derby Moor pupils leave the site at 3-20pm there is congestion on the site and on the road immediately outside the Derby Moor/Ivy House School main entrance between 3-20pm and 3-35pm.The pedestrian route to the King George V car park and the exit from the King George V car park is  uncongested ).
