SCOLA MARK 1A LIBRARY - RECLADDING & PITCHED OVER-ROOF

The history of this commission is interesting, in that the existing library was build in the 60's and was a fairly uninteresting flat roofed box. The quality of the area adjacent to the library had been enhanced over the years by superior housing and the original library no longer suited the location and at first the authority thought that the only solution would be to completely redesign and rebuild the library. However it was discovered that it was a SCOLA building and a scheme has been produced, as illustrated, which provided a pitched over-roof and re-cladding to the external walls, which has totally transformed the building, at a fraction of the cost of providing new.

The scheme has been produced by Pillar Consultancy (utilising CAD drawings)
