Before After

Problem
The
existing single glazed steel windows offered poor ventilation and required
repainting to reduce the onset of rust. Windows were not weatherstripped,
certain opening ventilators had become inoperative and were fixed permanently
shut. Ingress of sunlight through full height glazing excessive. Existing
concrete cills cracking and decomposing.
Solution
Removal
of existing steel windows. Replacement with polyester coated, thermally broken
aluminium windows and curtain walling. Double glazed with sealed units
incorporating both toughened and laminated glass, upper elements of full height
screens glazed with insulated panels offering improved insulation and reducing
ingress of excess sunlight. Double weatherstripped opening ventilators. Concrete
cills overclad with pressed metal polyester coated cills to match windows.
Internal screen protection was erected to minimise dust ingress into rooms and
low level working platforms were erected externally to protect existing planting
in flower beds.
Internally
existing quarry tile cills were removed and replaced with white pvc
weatherboards and plastered jambs suitably trimmed with architrave.
Due to concern about noise levels, the noisy operation of cutting out existing steel frames was carried out agreed periods and task lighting employed to work late into the evening ensuring all areas were secure each night.
